THIS PROJECT WILL OPEN IN SEPTEMBER
The Iorwerth Jones Centre is a 45 bedded unit in the community of Llanishen, Cardiff, comprising of three mental health wards. Two of the wards support older adults with dementia-related illnesses who have behavioural and psychiatric symptoms requiring highly specialist care. The third ward provides support for adults with enduring mental health conditions who require specialist rehabilitation mental health services.
Volunteers visit on a fortnightly basis and will interact and befriend patients across the three wards. The mixed rehabilitation ward allows for more activity based sessions and the dementia related wards require companionship and conversations.
Working with adults who suffer from dementia can be an emotional and challenging experience so please consider this before applying. However, this project is ideal for someone who has a particular interest in Mental Health Service for Older People.
