THIS PROJECT WILL OPEN IN SEPTEMBER
Hafan Y Coed is a mental health project where volunteers facilitate activities and befriend people who have mental health related conditions in an inpatient unit across 8 wards. These patients will also be at different points in their recovery. Volunteers offer social and emotional enrichment for approximately 113 patients through activities, such as baking, quizzes, or games evenings, as well as compassionate support and friendship. Through volunteer engagement (facilitating activity sessions) the patients develop their social skills and gain back confidence they may have lost as a result of their mental health condition and/or Acquired Brain Injury.
There are 8 wards which volunteers attend: Crisis assessment, 3x Locality, Neuropsychiatry service, 2 x male low secure and Supportive recovery service.
It is ideal for anyone interested in the field of mental health, or someone who enjoys working closely with people. Anyone can apply but you need to be a good listener as well as proactive with starting conversations and activities. Commitment to the project is essential as the volunteers are valued by both the patients and the staff team.
Please note if you are interested in the Supported Recovery ward you will be working with the Activities Nurse to plan sessions each week.
